
Imphal, Dec 23 : Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Senapati observed Kisan Diwas today at Sandangsenba Maring Village in Kangpokpi district in collaboration with the All India Coordinated Research Project on Soybean (AICRP–Soybean), College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
According to a release issued by KVK Senapati, the programme was organised on the theme “Viksit Bharat 2047 – The Role of FPOs in Globalizing Indian Agriculture,” highlighting the significance of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in transforming Indian agriculture into a globally competitive sector.
As part of the event, agricultural inputs such as sprayers and seeds were distributed to around 86 participating farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr N Jyotsna, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Senapati, spoke on the importance of observing Kisan Diwas in India and elaborated on the ongoing Swachh Pakhwada programme, emphasising its role in promoting cleanliness and public awareness across the country.
Senior Scientists of AICRP (Soybean) — Dr H Namita Devi, Dr T Sunanda Devi and Dr L Sofia Devi — delivered lectures on various aspects of soybean production in Manipur, focusing on improved practices and productivity enhancement.
Dr N Muhindro Singh, SMS, highlighted the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VIB-GRAMG], formerly MGNREGA, and underlined its importance in strengthening rural livelihoods.
Dr T Ratan Singh, SMS, spoke on the pivotal role of FPOs in the globalisation of Indian agriculture.
The event also witnessed the felicitation of progressive farmers from the village, recognising their contributions and boosting their morale.
More than 70 farmers were also invited to attend a webcasting programme at KVK Senapati, where Union Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan delivered an address.
The programme concluded with the distribution of agricultural inputs to participating farmers.
