IMPHAL, Dec 24 : Manipur suffered an innings and 91-run defeat to Jharkhand in their fourth Vijay Merchant Trophy Group C tie at DRIEMS Ground, Cuttack in two days.
Responding to Jharkhand’s first innings total of 301 runs, Manipur batters failed to withstand the impressive rival bowlers and collapsed at 111 runs for the first innings before faltering yet again in the follow on that folded up at 99 in 38.4 overs.
Resuming the day at 10/1 with Tyrus 2 and Chingamba 8, Tyrus could add only one run before he was trapped lbw by Yuvraj Singh for the second wicket while Chingamba holed out to Prabjot Vidhu on 26 off 79 balls for the third wicket.
Maverick 15 off 33 balls, Swabhiman 11 off 14 balls, and Md Zuned 20 off 26 balls also managed meagre double digit scores before the innings ended at 111 after 63.1 overs to trail Jharkhand by 200 runs.
Prabjot Singh (3/23 in 11 overs), Yuvraj Singh (3/18 in 13.1 overs), and Priyanshu Kumar (2/12 in 7 overs) returned with the leading bowling figures in the innings.
Asked to follow on, Chingamba 26 off 49 balls, Md Zuned 24 off 48 balls, Borish 20 off 48 balls, Ngambarel 11 off 27 balls, and Maverick Wakambam 10 off 12 balls emerged double digit run getters for Manipur as Prabjot (3/27 in 12 overs), Yuvraj (3/24 in 12.4 overs), and Priyanshu Kumar (2/5 in 5 overs) produced yet another scintillating bowling performances to dismiss Manipur for the innings total of 99 runs and sealed the comprehensive win.
Notably, Swabhiman (3/75 in 21 overs), Sagolshem Bush (2/41 in 10 overs), and Ngambarel (2/23 in 9 overs) shared a bulk of 7 wickets earlier in the first innings for Jharkhand to dismiss them for 301 runs in 72 overs.
Rojer (1/19 in 8 overs) and Romesh (1/34 in 4 overs) also picked a wicket apiece as Rudra Mishra 84 off 104 balls and Shivam Kumar Mavi 64 off 65 balls led the scoring for Jharkhand.
Manipur, who are winless in four games, will play Bengal in the concluding Elite Group C league match from December 29 to 31 at Ravenshaw University Ground 1, Cuttack.
