Women and Junior Boys’ State Polo Tournaments underway

IMPHAL, Dec 24 : The 20th edition of Women’s and 9th edition of Junior Boys’ State Polo Tournaments got underway at Mapal Kangjeibung today under the aegis of the All Manipur Polo Association.
As many as 5-teams are in the fray for the women’s title while 7-teams are competing in the boys’ tournament. The boys’ tournament is conducted in the knock-out format while the women's teams will compete in the round robin league format before the top two teams fight it out for the title.
In the opening match of the women’s tournament, Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CHPC) crushed Ibudhou Pakhangba Polo Club (IPPC) 10-2 courtesy of leading performances from Priya and Tanna. CHPC and IPPC were locked at 1-1 till the first chukker as Priya found her first in the 2nd minute for CHPC and L Lucy equalised in the final minute for IPPC.
Bijenti scored twice and Priya had her second in the second chukker to earn CHPC a 4-1 lead before CHPC raced to a 9-2 lead at the close of third chukker courtesy of two more goals from Priya, one goal from Heijin and two goals from Tanna. Chaoba was on target for IPPC in this chukker.
Tanna then scored her third goal in the final chukker to earn the 10-2 win.
Later in the day, Arvind Polo Club-B knocked out New Vision Polo Club-B by 5-1 goals to book their semi-final ticket.
Raj and Harsh scored a goal apiece for Arvind Polo Club-B in the first chukker to earn a 2-1 lead as Malemnganba scored one for New Vision Polo Club-B. Raj scored one goal apiece in the second and final chukker to complete his treble and further extend the lead to 4-1 before Vivek rounded off the scoring in the 5th minute of the final chukker.
With the win, Arvind PC-B set up a semi-final date with K&MMRS-A on December 29.
