IMPHAL, Dec 24 : With the arrival of Christmas, Singjamei Assembly Constituency MLA Yumnam Khemchand has expressed hope for all displaced people of Manipur to be safely resettled in their original homes.
He made the remark during a one-day free medical camp for IDPs held at the Alternative Housing Complex, National Games Village Zone III, Langol today.
Many doctors, including six specialists, offered free consultations on general medicine, gynaecology, onco-surgery, endocrinology, paediatrics, psychiatry, ENT etc at the medical camp organised by the MLA.
While resettlement of IDPs in different parts of the State have started, the same cannot be said for displaced people from Moreh and Churachandpur who cannot be resettled in haste, said MLA Yumnam Khemchand.
Highlighting his earlier efforts to help IDPs, he informed that as RD&PR Minister, he issued special MGNREGA job cards for the IDPs at various relief camps.
Despite Government assistance, nobody wishes to live in relief camps. All displaced folks, both in the valley and hills, want to return home. Recounting his recent interaction with Kuki IDPs at Litan, he said they expressed their desire to go back home. With the coming of Christmas and New Year 2026, may peace and normalcy return in Manipur. Peace is the only way. Only after the restoration of peace can life go back to normal, said the MLA. At the camp, Ranjita Yumnam, an IDP from Churachandpur, shared that not a single MLA has visited the Alternative Housing Complex to assess the living condition of the inmates, allegedly including the local Uripok MLA. She extended her gratitude to Y Khemchand for organising the free medical camp and making medicines available free of cost. Meanwhile, MLA Khemchand told the relief camp inmates that the Government is working to ensure their resettlement very soon.
