M Dominic picks five as PTCC beat CDCC by 3 runs in final over thriller

IMPHAL, Dec 26 : Moirangthem Dominic emerged the hero as he snatched the 3-run victory for PTCC, Patsoi Part III against CDCC, Sagolband Salam Leikai in a keenly contested Group A match of the ongoing 5th MNCA Superplate Trophy at Khudeiband Lampak, Taothong today.
PTCC opted to bat first and added 164 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 35 overs after electing to bat first and defended their total by riding on Dominic Moirangthem who swept the PTCC tailenders including the last man Khurshid Alam in the third delivery of the final over after they were four runs away from the win.
Aribam Rohit had scored a half century (55 off 45; 3 fours and 3 sixes) for PTCC followed by Dominic 29 off 48, Okram Sadananda 20 not out off 16 earlier in the first innings that saw M Lucky (2/41) claiming two wickets while four other picked a wicket apiece.
In reply, CDCC did not have the best of the start and were reduced to 60/5 in 13.3 overs with Gemson Mutum sweeping the 3rd, 4th and 5th wickets after Sapam Kenjit and Dominic shared the first two wickets.
M Lucky, who came in at number 5, however forged a 42-run partnership to take CDCC past the 100-run mark with Kshetrimayum Robert 16 who was removed by Deepak for the 6th wicket.
Lucky held on to keep his team in the contention and they were in need of 35 runs for the victory when Benson was undone for the 7th wicket in the fourth delivery of the 31st over by Dominic who also removed N Gulson on duck in the next delivery to reduce them to 130/8.
Lucky also saw Fm Sharif depart on 11 to Dominic in the 3rd delivery of the 33rd over as the scoreboard read 144.
Needing 21 runs in 15 deliveries, Lucky kept his cool and added another 18 runs with Khurshid Alam to close in to the target but Dominic bamboozled Khurshid Alam on 12 for the final wicket in the third delivery of the final over to pour cold water on Lucky’s determined effort.
Lucky was unbeaten on 43 off 76 as they were 4 runs away from the victory.
Dominic returned with the best figures of 5/27 in 5.3 overs as Gemson finished with 3/22 in 7 overs.
Elsewhere at Model Hr Sec and Oriental College ground, Al-Ameen, Lilong beat WYC, Thoubal Wangkhem by 5 wickets for the first win in two Group B matches.
Yumnam Rohit 4/4 in 4.1 overs, Zaheer Khan 2/11 in 4 overs and Md Karim 2/20 in 5 overs shared 8 crucial wickets to dismantle toss winners WYC for 80 runs within 23.1 overs before Imanur scored an unbeaten 34 off 27 balls and Md Karim 13 not out off 16 to forge 45 runs for the 6th wicket and took Al-Ameen to the target in 11.2 overs.
Priyananda 13 off 9, G Mangi 13 off 19, and Roshan 13 off 16 were the only double digit scorers for WYC earlier in the first innings before M Sushil (2/20) and N Ruhit (2/16) shared four wickets in a lost cause.
