IMPHAL, Dec 26: The Communist Party of India (CPI) today celebrated the centenary of its establishment at Irabot Bhavan here.
As a part of the centenary celebration, floral tributes were paid to departed leaders of the party.
Speaking to media persons, CPI State Control Commission Chairman Dr M Nara said that surviving for 100 years is no mean achievement for any political party.
Dr Nara said that CPI is one of the oldest surviving political parties in India.
CPI was set up on December 26, 1925 and the party’s centenary celebration started on December 26, 2024.
Given the restive situation seen in the country and its neighbouring countries, it is imperative to strengthen CPI. The centenary celebration will give an impulse to the party, he said.
Asking how one can live in peace without social justice, Dr Nara said that social equality can be realised only when democracy and secularism are allowed to thrive.
Offering Rs 10,000 to each voter in the Bihar Assembly election was an open act of buying votes.
When such elements become the dominant force, all the promises of social justice, equality and development are all lies, Dr Nara said.
He added that CPI Manipur State Council was established on August 23, 1948 and popular leader Hijam Irabot took the responsibility of founding CPI Manipur State Council.
