THOUBAL, Dec 26 : Even as controversies surrounding MGNREGA continue to surface frequently, an Inter-Village Road (IVR) built on patta land at Khangabok Part-II Gram Panchayat, Thoubal district has reportedly been dug up after its construction.
The construction of the IVR was allegedly put in the work programme and the route was subsequently paved with bricks. Afterwards, the bricks were dug out using heavy machinery (JCB) after it came to light that the paved road was reportedly not an IVR.
Speaking in this connection at the conference hall of Thoubal District Working Journalist Union (TDWJU), Khundrakpam Sunil from Khangabok Part II claimed that the former chairperson of Khangabok GP Administrative Committee, Moirangthem Gopiramon, brick paved Khundrakpam Leirak, which is on patta land, located in Ward No 4 and later dismantled the road, ruining the path for people who use it daily.
He also accused the former chairperson of issuing threats to prohibit erection of fences along Khundrakpam Leirak claiming that it now belongs to the State as it has been paved with bricks. He also reportedly restricted people from using the road.
When they approached the Zilla Parishad Member of the Administrative Committee regarding the issue, the former chairperson allegedly instructed the Zilla Parishad to not intervene, alleged Khundrakpam Sunil.
Earlier, he believed that the road was paved as part of a village development initiative by the concerned Block Office or Panchayat.
Moreover, written appeals have been sent to the BDO Thoubal and DC Thoubal but nothing has been done till date to address the issue, he said.
As a result, Khundrakpam Sunil has sought the attention of the concerned authority to take swift action and alleviate the suffering of the affected people.
