87th Senior National Badminton Championships K Priya in women’s doubles final, Dingku-Manjit pair bow out in quarters

IMPHAL, Dec 27 : Manipur’s Konjengbam Priya has reached the women’s doubles final in the Yonex Sunrise 87th Senior National Badminton Championships being underway at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
Priya and her partner Shruti Mishra of Uttar Pradesh set up the final date with Shikha Gautam & Aswini Bhat K as they defeated Aparna Balan & Simran Singh 21-19, 21-14 in a semi-final clash.
Shikha Gautam & Aswini Bhat K meanwhile got the better of Vennala K & Reshika U 21-11, 21-15 to complete the final line up.
Priya and Shruti Mishra earlier got a bye in the first round before defeating Arunbala R & Nila V 21-13, 21-10 in the second round and  Zenith Abigail & Likhita Srivastava 21-16, 21-14 in the third round to confirm their quarterfinal ticket.
The pair then outlasted Arath Sara Sunil & Varshini VS in the quarterfinal to set up the semi-final date with Aparna Balan & Simran Singh.
But sadly, the Manipuri pair of Khwairakpam Manjit and Konthoujam Dingku had yesterday bowed out in the quarterfinals as they suffered a 21-18, 21-23, 17-21 loss to Mithilesh P Krishnan  & Prejan.
Earlier, Manjit and Dingku had won 22-20, 21-18 over Sai Raman and Jayansh Reddy in the Round of 64 before securing a  21-11, 21-7 win over Naveen P and Lokesh V in the Round of 32.
They the earned their quarterfinal berth by edging out Mohit Singh and Harikesh Verma 19-21, 21-13, 9-21 in the Round of 16.
