Special day for disabled observed

IMPHAL, Dec 3: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 was observed today at the City Convention Centre, Ground Floor Gallery Hall, Palace Compound, Imphal, with a vibrant and inclusive programme aimed at promoting disability rights, accessibility, and equal opportunities.
The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur.
Observed under the theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress”, Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Secretary attended the event as chief guest.
Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, Secretary, Social Welfare; Waikhom Birahari Singh, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities; and Anna Arambam, Director, Social Welfare among other officials attended the observance.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary PK Goel stressed that the persons with disabilities play a huge role in the development of the State.
Persons with disabilities have talents and do not lack in creativity. They have succeeded in almost all the fields including sports and have brought laurels for the State, Goel said.
Social Welfare Secretary, Robert Singh Kshetrimayum said persons with disabilities make up 2.21 percent of Manipur's total population.
He highlighted many Government schemes and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
During the event, several sport-spersons with disabilities were felicitated for their achievements in National level competitions.
Those facilitated include Manipur women players who won silver in the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament  2025, team which won bronze in the National Cerebral Palsy Football Championship 2025 and medal winners of the 12th National Abilympics Skill Competition held at Delhi in November 2025.
The Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Takyel, distributed aids and assistive devices to several persons.
Differently abled students gave cultural performances showcasing their rich talents and creativity.
