Prime suspect remanded

IMPHAL, Dec 29: Both the prime suspect and the alleged mastermind of the murder of Khaidem (ongbi) Chaoba Devi have been remanded to judicial custody till January 8, 2026.
Prime suspect Moirang-them Dhanajit 29 s/o Ju- gindro of Langathel Lai-khom Bazar, staying at Nongpok Keithelmanbi Awang Leikai at present and alleged mastermind Shamu-railatpam Kananbala Devi alias Dhaneshwori (41) d/o (L) Bihari of Yairipok Wangkhem were arrested by the investigating team of the murder case from their respective places on December 28.
Both of them were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal West 1 by a team of Wangoi police station today.
After hearing the submission of an APP of the State and on perusal of the remand prayer submitted by police, the Court remanded the two accused persons in police custody for 11 days till January 8 for smooth investigation of the case.
Late Chaoba Devi’s husband, Khaidem Nareshwor and mother-in-law Khaidem (ongbi) Indira w/o Ingocha of Wangoi Mamang Khaidem were remanded in police custody remand till January 5 by Duty Magistrate, Imphal West on December 28 in connection with the same case.
Khaidem (ongbi) Chaoba Devi was found dead in a suspicious manner in the morning of December 27 within the compound of Ibudhou Pakhangba at Thiyam Leishangkhong Thiyam Leikai after she reportedly went missing from December 26 night.
On the other hand, the dead body of the victim is being kept at RIMS morgue from December 27 night.
So far, neither the parental family nor the husband’s  family have come forward to claim the body of Chaoba.
