Court remands non-local thieves to judicial custody

IMPHAL, Dec 30 : The Duty Magistrate of Imphal West  remanded two non-local thieves to judicial custody in connection with two separate cases registered at City police station on different dates.
In the first case, on the morning of December 25, at around 7 am, Sub Inspector P Siddhartha submitted a report stating that he and his team were on round patrolling duty in and around Thangal Keithel area.
As the team approached the Kasturi Bridge, they saw an unknown person running towards them, chased by a group of people from Bora Galli.
The police team detained the unknown person, who identified himself as Rahul Pal (25), s/o Late Raju Pal of Ram Krishna Nagar, Silchar, and currently residing at Khuyathong Pukhri Achouba.
He confessed to stealing a mobile phone from Bora Galli, which he had placed inside a plastic stool.
However, the owner of the phone, Konthoujam Roshan of Ahallup Bamdiar Awang Leikai, had seen him from inside his shop and began chasing him, eventually leading to the accused's capture by the police.
It was also learned that the accused is a habitual drug user. The police requested judicial custody for the accused.
After hearing the submissions, the Duty Magistrate remanded the accused into judicial custody until January 8, 2026.
In the second case, on the morning of December 26, one Tayengjam Bidyaluxmi reported to City police station that her handbag containing money, which she had left at Ima Keithel on December 23, had been stolen by an unknown non-local.
The complainant did not know the full details of the accused, but she recognized him and waited for his appearance.
On December 26, while the complainant was at her stall at Ima Keithel, she saw the accused roaming near Keithel no 1. The complainant immediately rushed toward him, detained him, and handed him over to the City police station.
During the investigation, the accused was identified as Biki (31), s/o Bimol of Jirighat, Assam currently residing near Hatta Public Hospital.
He admitted to stealing the complainant’s handbag on December 23, around 1 pm, and, after taking the money, he threw the handbag into the Nambul River.
After reviewing the case, the Duty Magistrate remanded the accused into judicial custody until January 9, 2026, to ensure a smooth investigation.
