IMPHAL, Dec 29: Writers have urged the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) to impose no ban on "Puya :The Sacred Book" published recently. In a statement to the media, Laishram ongbi RK Netasana and Kangjam Bidhu Khuman said the Puya is the property of the people of Manipur and such a treasure should not be concealed from the public.
Puya isn't easily accessible to the public. The book was published with the aim to make it more accessible to the public, they said.
Notably, the book was compiled and transcribed by Kangjam Bidhu and Late Laiphrakpam Asokumar from 162 Puyas written in Meitei Mayek.
The Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) had earlier stated that it may take action against individuals who published the book. Although the book is intended for the public, it was released through piracy and used the name of LSTB without authorization, it had said.
