IMPHAL, Dec 30: Anticipating proactive actions to resolve the Manipur conflict in the New Year, People's Progressive Alliance Manipur (PPAM) has sought the attention of the Government of India  to take immediate actions on some of the key issues facing the State.
In a statement, PPAM said the Government of India must immediately act to open all highways for free, secure, and unrestricted movement of all citizens and goods without military or militia-imposed blockades.
The Government must also ensure the safety and livelihoods of all communities and protect them from coercion, extortion, and violence, it said.
It stressed the Government of India to refrain from empowering armed groups as de facto authorities in any part of Manipur under the guise of "peace pacts" or military agreements.
These steps are necessary for democratic governance and the restoration of trust in Constitutional order, it said.
PPAM also stressed that the Government of India must also understand the contemporary Constitutional and political status of Manipur against a backdrop of legal history and internationally recognised principles, it said.
Manipur was a sovereign political entity with its own Constitution in 1947 before "controversial" merger with India in 1949, it said.
The Government of India must end its "divisive policies" and respect the territorial integrity of Manipur, it stressed.
It also urged all citizens and leaders alike to foster peaceful coexistence and communal harmony, grounded in mutual respect.
Equal dignity and rights for all communities-regardless of ethnicity or religion must be ensured and preserved, it said.
Humanitarian support for all internally displaced persons to return home with dignity and security must be ensured, it added.
