Empowering hands, enabling futures: Tailoring workshop for border women concludes in Chandel

IMPHAL, Dec 4 : Reinforcing its enduring commitment to inclusive development and women’s empowerment in the border regions of Manipur, the Assam Rifles successfully conducted a 10- day tailoring workshop at Molcham village in Chandel District.
As per a release issued by the IGAR (South), the initiative organised under Operation Sadbhavana, aimed to equip women from remote villages of Khengjoi Sub-Division with practical skills to enhance their livelihood prospects. Held from November 20-29. 2025, the workshop brought together 20 women participants from Molcham, T Nampao, Zoldam and Gamphazol villages.
Over the course of ten days, the women underwent structured training in essential and advanced tailoring techniques, including measurement, cutting, stitching and the operation of sewing machines. The programme was designed not only to impart technical proficiency but also to instill confidence and nurture an entrepreneurial mindset among the participants.
The culmination of the workshop was marked by the distribution of 20 sewing machines, one to each participant by Assam Rifles, ensuring that the newly acquired skills could be translated into sustainable income generating ventures.
This gesture was met with heartfelt appreciation from local leaders, village chiefs and community members, who acknowledged the initiative as a timely and meaningful intervention addressing the economic challenges faced by women in these remote areas.
The event witnessed the presence of approximately 80 personnel and villagers, reflecting the strong community engagement fostered by the Force.
