Papers handed over to drone bombing accused

IMPHAL, Dec 5: Special Court NIA Manipur 1 today handed over relevant papers of the charges sheets to the accused persons through their respective counsel for charge hearing in connection with the drone bombing at Koutruk and Kadangband on September 1, 2024 and fixed December 19 for charge hearing.
Accused persons–– Haulungmang Samte alias Kengpu Zou alias Kenpu Samte s/o Dongzakhai Samte of Khonomphai Saikul village, Churachandpur district and Samuel Thongcianhao Vaiphei alias Python s/o Seitlai Vaiphei of L Munlui village, Leimakhong under Kangpokpi district were produced before the Court through video conferencing from the temporary jail of Senapati and Jiribam respectively.
A Special PP, NIA and counsels of the accused persons were present and the Court handed over relevant papers of the charge sheet to the accused persons through their respective counsels who prayed for time for charge hearing.
The Court, after hearing the submission the Special PP, NIA and the defence counsels fixed December 19 for charge hearing, and remanded the accused persons in further judicial custody until the next date.
Court also allowed the filing of additional documents by NIA in connection with the case.
On September 1, 2024 afternoon, unknown armed Kuki militants attacked Koutruk and Kadangband villages using sophisticated weapons, snipers and drones from the western hill range forcing the villagers to run for their lives.
In the attack, a young woman Ngangbam Surbala (30) w/o Ingo of Phayeng Umang was killed on the spot at Koutruk and her nine year old daughter sustained injuries.
The attack by Kuki militants went on till around 7 pm before they swooped down on Koutruk and burned down many vehicles to ashes at Koutruk Chingthak Leikai.
It was also reported earlier that more than 40 bombs were dropped by armed Kuki militants using drones on September 1, 2024 at Koutruk and Kadangband.
NIA started investigating the case in compliance with an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on September 17, after re-registering a case initially registered at Lamsang police station and submitted the charge sheet against the two accused in the second week of November for trial.
