IMPHAL, Dec 6 : Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar has stated that the Government's failure to take action against those who breached the Indo-Myanmar border by dis- mantling a 100 to 200-meter stretch of the border fence between Border Pillar Nos  67 and 68, reflects a disregard for Manipur's territorial integrity.
Addressing the media at his quarters at Babupara today, Lokeshwar continued that Manipur is a border State which has been grappling with issues related to illegal immigration.
Stating that border fences, spanning around 100 to 200 meters, were found dismantled between Border Pillar Nos  67 and 68 on December 2, he questioned how the fences could be pulled down despite the adequate deployment of Assam Rifles personnel in the area and why no arrests have been made so far.
He noted that the location where the fences were pulled down is not far from Moreh, and questioned why the Indian Government has been remaining silent on the matter.
Would the Central leadership remain silent if simi- lar incidents occurred in areas bordering Pakistan, China, or Bangladesh?, he asked.
Stating that a breach of the border poses a serious threat to National security, Lokeshwar asked whether the Centre has a hidden agenda regarding the issue.
He stated that the inaction of the Central Govern- ment reflects a disregard for the territorial integrity of Manipur and urged the Government to take immediate action against those responsible for dismantling the border fences and to reinstall them within two to three days if the Centre truly considers Manipur as part of India.
He expressed concern that those involved in dismantling the fences may be working to facilitate arms and drug smuggling and sow discord among the communities living in Manipur.
The Congress MLA also urged the Government to issue a shoot-at-sight order for anyone caught dismantling the border fences.
Failure to enforce law and order in the hill districts will hinder peace efforts, he said, questioning whether the BJP Government is intentionally trying to create animosity among the people.
Lokeshwar also asked if the responsibility of the President's Rule administration is simply to prevent gunfights between the warring communities,
No action is being taken against illegal immigrants, he claimed.
The Congress leader also alleged that the President's Rule is not genuine, claiming that the administration is being influenced by the BJP.
On the peace effort, he asked why the Government is still unable to resettle the internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their native  places and urged the Governor to resettle the IDPs by December.
