IMPHAL, Dec 8: Even as two IndiGo flights--one incoming and another outgoing--were cancelled today, the airline's flights from Imphal International Airport are expected to operate normally on December 9.
IndiGo has announced normal flight operations at Imphal Airport on December 9, with no cancellations reported on the day. While normal operation is expected, flights may still be cancelled due to operational and other uncontrollable factors, said the Imphal International Airport on Facebook.
The Imphal Airport handle on Facebook posted:
"IndiGo flight update-09th December
We are pleased to inform that IndiGo has announced normal flight operations at Imphal Airport for December 9, with no cancellations reported for the day. This marks a welcome step toward stable and seamless operations.
Please Note: While operations are running smoothly, flights may still be subjected to delays or cancellations due to operational or other uncontrollable factors.
Passengers are kindly advised to stay updated and verify the latest information directly with the airline."
Notably, IndiGo cancelled two of 14 flights on the Imphal-Guwahati-Kolkata route today.
The airline had cancelled the 8.40 am flight from Kolkata to Imphal and the 9.15 am flight from Imphal to Kolkata.
While IndiGo operated 1800 plus flights today, it cancelled over 562 flights across various cities.
Significantly, the airline has blamed regulatory changes in Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) for pilots for the mass cancellations that have affected lakhs of flyers.
Civil Aviation Minister KR Mohan Naidu in the Parliament has informed that the IndiGo flight disruptions have affected 5.8 lakh people.
The FDTL norms, revised and notified on May 31, 2024, is to ensure "fatigue protection and passenger safety", the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has said.
The Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms specify how long crew can remain on duty from reporting until sign-off, how many hours they may actually fly during that window, how many night landings are allowed and the mandatory rest gap that must follow.
The revised FDTL has raised minimum weekly rest to 48 consecutive hours from 36 specified in the 2019 guideline.
While IndiGo has blamed the revised FDTL for the cancellations of its flights since December 2, the DGCA has flagged “significant lapses” in the airline's planning, oversight, and resource management.
Reports said, IndiGo CEO Piter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidro Proqueras are likely to be summoned on Wednesday by a four-member probe panel that has been set up by the DGCA as part of its investigation into the IndiGo flight disruptions.
