Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite Manipur suffer an innings and 169 run loss to Kerala

IMPHAL, Dec 8 : Manipur suffered an innings and 169 run loss to Kerala in their opening match of Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite Group at DRIEMS ground, Cuttack on the second day.
Asked to bat first yesterday, Manipur were bundled out for a meagre total of 64 runs within 58.4 overs as Kerala bowlers proved unplayable.
Md Zuned 14 off 33 and Distaraj 14 not out off 41 were the only double digit run getters for Manipur in the first innings as Adithyan SV 4/14, Md Raihan 2/13, Mukund N Menon 2/14, and Navaneeth KS 2/19 dazzled with the ball.
Kerala then declared their first innings on 312/6 in 72.3 overs riding on a leading knocks from Ishaan M Raj 100 off 98, Vishal George 72 off 128 and Abhinav R Nair 42 not out off 48 before bundling out Manipur yet again for 79 runs within 27.3 overs in the second innings.
For Manipur, Sagolsem Bush 2/30, Romesh 2/55, Swabhiman 1/50, and Md Zued 1/60 were among the wickets before Chingamba 17 off 33, Ngambarel 19 off 37 and Md Zuned 15 off 22 led the scoring in the second innings.
Adithyan SV played the pivotal role in dismantling Manipur in the second innings as he overhauled his performance to claim 8 wickets (8/31) to finish with a match haul of 12 wickets while Navaneeth KS picked one (1/15).
Manipur will play Assam in the second match from December 12 at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
