Committee, residents threaten to close road

IMPHAL, Dec 8: Aggrieved with prolonged Government inaction, Imphal Saikul Road Joint Development Committee (ISRJDC) staged a protest demanding proper renovation of the Imphal-Saikul road stretch, joined by affected residents, students and passenger service workers.
ISRJDC has threatened to impose an indefinite shutdown along the road stretch if it is not repaired by December 23, as per a statement.
Students of schools along the aforementioned stretch, namely, Down Town Mini Paradise School, Pari Imom Khwai Sindam Shang, Royal Academy of Manipur, Little House, Kanan Devi School, Saraswati Institute of Medical Sciences, Bright Career Academy School, Khundrakpam Public School, Sainik View Getwell Higher Secondary School, RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Paramount English School, Success School and Hundred Flowers School and passenger transport service workers backed ISRJDC's protest and stepped out into the roads demanding swift redressal.
As a part of the protest, passenger transport service workers plying along the Imphal-Saikul Road staged a demonstration and shouted various slogans at Pangei Bazar.
A press conference was held after the protest demonstration at the office of Pangei Yangdong Youth Development Association (PYYDA).
Jiko Meetei, co-convenor, ISRJDC shared that the protest was initiated after the Governor failed to meet their deadline for Imphal-Saikul road renovation work.
If the road is not repaired by December 23, an indefinite shut down will be imposed along the Imphal-Saikul Road from the next day (December 24), he warned.
