Urgent need for regular power supply during Board examinations

Sir,
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for your well-articulated article, "Studying by Candle Light During Exams: Welcome to Manipur," published on March 1, 2025. Your coverage of the hardships faced by students appearing for their Class X and Class XII board examinations due to frequent power outages highlights an urgent issue that demands immediate attention.
As you rightly pointed out, the erratic power supply has significantly disrupted the preparation of thousands of students, adding unnecessary stress during an already challenging period. The emotional and mental toll on students who are forced to study under candlelight is deeply concerning. It is disheartening that basic necessities like electricity remain unreliable even in this crucial academic phase. The images shared by parents on social media only reinforce the grim reality faced by many households.
Manipur is currently under the President's Rule. While Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been making commendable efforts to collect illegal arms from the youth and restore peace and order in the violence-hit state, we would greatly appreciate it if His Excellency heading the government intervenes on behalf of the students. Ensuring an uninterrupted power supply during this critical examination period would provide much-needed relief to students and their families, who are already facing multiple challenges.
Education is the foundation of a progressive society, and a stable power supply is essential to ensure that students have a fair chance to perform to the best of their abilities. The government and concerned authorities must take immediate steps to address this pressing issue, particularly during examination periods, so that students do not suffer due to administrative lapses.
I commend The Sangai Express for bringing this critical matter to public discourse. I hope your platform continues to highlight such essential concerns and urge the authorities to act swiftly in the interest of students and the public at large.
Sincerely,
Homen Thangjam
