Elect genuine leaders, says MP to public

IMPHAL, Jan 10 : Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has appealed to the people of Manipur to elect representatives who are genuinely committed to working for the betterment of the State in the upcoming elections.
He emphasized the importance of choosing leaders who prioritise the welfare of the people and contribute to the State's growth and development while attending the closing ceremony of the 5th State-Level Late Akoijam Ibocha (Ibomcha) U-14 Boys and U-21 Girls Hockey Tournament, held at Taobungkhok, Imphal West.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Bimol stated that the ongoing crisis in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023, has taken a severe toll, particularly on the Meitei, with the entire community being cut off from the National Highways.
Saying that elections are a time when people have the power to shape their future, he appealed to the public to elect responsible leaders.
"Let us not sell our precious votes for a mere sum of money," he urged.
The Congress MP further emphasised that Manipur, with its rich history spanning thousands of years, will face great jeopardy if the people are not conscientious during elections.
He, meanwhile, stated that Manipur lacks adequate sports infrastructure compared to other States , despite being known as a sports powerhouse .
He emphasised that Manipur would certainly produce more talented sportspersons and athletes if there is better infrastructure in place.
Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar was the guest of honour.
He stated that the fate of Manipur hangs in the balance under the BJP rule and appealed to the people to elect responsible leaders in the upcoming elections.
Ex Congress MLAs O Landhoni, Kh Loken, AK Mirabai and N Loken also attended the programme.
Taobungkhok Welfare Club emerged as champions in both the Boys U-14 and Girls U-21 tournaments.
