IMPHAL, Jan 9 : Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata left Imphal for Delhi today.
While Ajay Kumar Bhalla left Imphal in an Indigo flight at 1.45 pm, Satyabrata boarded a Delhi-bound flight in the evening.
The Governor and the Speaker left Imphal hurriedly responding to a call from the Central leaders.
Well placed sources said that there is a strong possibility for the return of an elected Government in Manipur in place of President’s Rule at the earliest.
Some BJP MLAs said that a new popular Govt may be sworn in on January 19 or 21. Talk of the return of a popular Government has been doing the round lately amid the series of review meetings held at New Delhi. On January 2, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a meeting at Delhi in which Governor AK Bhalla was present and the pros and cons of continuing with PR was discussed, said a report filed in The Hindu on January 7. PR will complete one year on February 13.
