One non-political pal from Thangmeiband told me on the morning of 8th January that Shri Meinam Bhorot  ex MLA and former BJP President is no more. Then I got the confirmation from a former Sangathan Mantri about his sad demise. He told me that he is going for the last ritual of the Hon’ble  leader .In fact, Shri Bhorot dedicated his life for the welfare of the people particularly for the people of Manipur.
Shri Bhorot  passed away at the age of 76 due to a prolonged illness. He was survived by his wife Respected Smt  Bimola Devi and four children ( three gentlemen and one lady ). He could not do much about his family  but  he remained busy with  people's work and party duties. He was never involved in any malpractices and was deadly against immoral activities.
After receiving the sad news, I was talking-to a couple of friends including one MLA whose relative sells cars on Tiddim road. Actually I was making a request to him for speedy delivery of a car which was booked by my brother who  unnecessarily wants to drive a big car – to show-off. The  gentleman said he will do the needful . While talking about the booking and delivery of the car he also reminded that “ we are supposed to go  to Ta Bhorot’s residence”. We concluded the tete- a -tete  on car  and started talking about the hard work done by  Bhorot ji.
Whenever you enter  a ‘Privar’ meeting or congregation  if a person is addressed by many as Bhaisaab  - it is a connotation. Within the Parivar  a Bhaisaab is a person who is associated with the RSS ; in most of the cases they are trained RSS cadre Or a Pracharak. Common people may not be aware of this salutary ‘address’ - “Bhaisaab”. In Parivarik, a BhaiSaab is a senior respectable Sangathan man. Shri Meinam Bhorot was a Bhaisaab. He was well known and widely  respected  in the entire Saffron set-up.
Whenever he goes to Delhi or Nagpur he is welcomed by the organization men warmly. He was never made out of place whenever he visited any party office or organizational establishment. Somebody could recognize him . He was treated in the way a respectable leader is normally treated.
Since 1980 , he was with the Bharatiya Janata Party  ; perhaps he was the longest serving BJP President of the State of Manipur. He strengthened the party organization to a great extent. He was moving from one place to another to mobilize Party workers. He travelled and he met many people and local leaders and tried to convince them to join the BJP. In the beginning the membership was meager but swelled like anything later on.
Indeed he was one of the founding members of Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980. Among the prominent leaders who started BJP in Manipur he was one of them . He worked very closely with  State BJP netas namely,  Raghumani Sharma,  Dolansana, Yumjao, Dr Borbabu , Col Bhubon , Madhumangol Sharma, BB Sharma, Shanti Sharma and many more.
You know, he was OTC trained. Do you know the full form of OTC? In RSS jargon – it stands for Officers Training Camp (a training program for dedicated volunteers). Nowadays it is known as Sangh Shiksha Varg (SSV).  The training focuses fundamentally on ideological preparation for future organizers.
Bhorot ji was a relentless fighter; he kept contesting the Assembly elections  many times.  Though defeated several times he remained grateful to the people of his constituency. Because of his modest, dedicated and helpful nature, people elected him as an MLA in 2002. Without money and muscle power winning an election in Manipur is out of the question. But, he did it.
Sometimes as a citizen I feel proud that our voters sometimes defy the dictates of money and muscle. I know certain leaders who came to power without the backing of Guns and “Gandhi”. Quite often I wonder why can’t our people do this type of unique voting so that the real dedicated, patriots, or people’s workers get elected. If we can do such things we will certainly have  better  government and governance.
Once I met him in Manipur Bhawan ,New Delhi. That time he was a National Executive Member of BJP.  He came for the Nation Executive Meeting and he was waiting eagerly for someone at the reception. I came to see a  friend  .  My friend introduced me to him (they were in the same fraternity.)That was my first meeting with him .  Perhaps he was late for the meeting, he told my friend , “just tell Boro that I have left”.  Bhorot ji murmured and left, “ he takes a lot of time in the bathroom”.
Honestly speaking that was the first meeting and first introduction; after that we met several times but on Namaste terms, no heavy engagements. However, we respect Bhorot ji because he was a dedicated Saffronite and above all a benevolent person and very lovable. A Salute to Bhorot Bhaisaab.
