Public meeting highlights condition of Tarang River

KAKCHING, Jan 10: All Kakching Khunou United Clubs' Organisation (AKUCO), Arambai Tenggol Unit 59, Water Sanitation Committee and local meira paibis convened a joint meeting today to address the degradation of Tarang River, which flows through Kakching Khunou. As per a press release, the meeting passed a number of resolutions, including, prohibiting the clearance of vegetation from hillsides/watershed areas which serve as the source of the river such as Hongulok and banning the use of heavy machinery used in clearing and uprooting trees, vegetation and boulders. The gathering also resolved to launch a poster campaign  around Hongulok to spread awareness about the deterioration of Tarang River's watershed areas. The press release further directed those involved in ravaging the watershed areas to halt all such activities and immediately remove their heavy machines from these areas.
