ARCLA condoles John Parratt

IMPHAL, Jan 11: Advanced Research Consortium, Library and Archives (ARCLA) has condoled the demise of Prof John Parratt who authored several books in the history, culture and traditions of Manipur.
According to a press release issued by ARCLA, Prof John Parratt passed away on January 1, 2026.
After obtaining a doctoral degree from University of London, he worked as a Professor at the School of Historical Studies, University of Birmingham.
Prof John Parratt did extensive research and published many books on Manipur, Africa as well as Pacific countries, it said.
Some of the works of Prof John Parratt on Manipur include “Wounded Land: Politics and Identity in Modern Manipur”, “The Coils of Pakhangba: A Cultural History of Meeteis” etc.
With his late wife Saroj Nalini Arambam Parratt as co-author, Prof John Parratt also authored “Queen Empress vs Tikendrajit”, “The History and Culture of Manipur” etc.
ARCLA said that Prof John Parratt donated a number of books, photographs of different events, festivals, ceremonies, dance and music of Manipur to them in 2025.
As an acknowledgment of the works done by Prof John Parratt on Manipur, an exhibition of the photos, books and documents donated by the late author will be held at the exhibition hall of ARCLA at Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai, Imphal East from January 30 to February 1, it said.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, ARCLA has prayed that the departed soul may rest in eternal peace in the heavenly abode.
