IMPHAL, Jan 11: Members of Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) held a meeting this afternoon on the ongoing protest and indefinite closure of oil pumps but the meeting did not take any decision on reopening the fuel outlets.
Protesting a bomb attack at Elidas Fuel Station, Moirang on Thursday night, all oil pumps in the valley districts have been closed since January 10, 2026.
With MPDF refraining from taking any decision to re-open oil pumps, people are likely to face acute scarcity of fuel in the coming days.
Taking strong exception to the bomb attack at the oil pump, MPDF decided to close all oil pumps in the valley districts until and unless the Government takes up positive actions to their three demands.
A key member of MPDF told The Sangai Express that they held a meeting at Hotel Nirmala, MG Avenue at 3 pm today and the meeting deliberated on the ongoing agitation (closure of oil pumps).
Even though the MPDF member refused to divulge what exactly transpired at the meeting, he said that they will talk with the Government on January 12 if such a meeting is arranged.
He said that MPDF would reiterate their three demands at the meeting tomorrow if such a meeting is held.
Notably, a bomb was placed at an oil pump located at Koirengei, Imphal East on December 6 before a bomb exploded at Elidas Fuel Station, Moirang on January 8 night.
Following these incidents, MPDF has been asking the Government to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future, take full responsibility in case of any further incidents like bomb blasts or abduction of staff, and provide compensation for the damages done at M/S Elidas Fuel Station.
A late report said that MPDF will hold another round of meeting with the State Government at Old Secretariat at 1 pm on January 12, 2026, and the meeting would be chaired by the Chief Secretary.
