IMPHAL, Jan 11 : The Joint Coordinating Committee for the 37th Drivers' Day Observation has announced that around 1,500 active drivers will be felicitated on January 14, the Drivers' Day, in addition to honouring the families of deceased drivers.
Speaking to the media at the office of the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union (AMRTDMWU), Maimom Anil, convenor of the Joint Committee, said that the Drivers' Day, originally scheduled to be held at ISBT at Dewlahland, will now take place at THAU Ground, Thangmeiband due to some circumstances.
He stated that over 320 drivers who lost their lives while on duty, either due to attacks by miscreants or in accidents, will be honoured on the day. Saying that drivers and handymen have been working tirelessly round the clock despite the challenging situation in Manipur, he appealed to the public to light candles at their gates in honour of the drivers and handymen.
