IMPHAL, Jan 11: The National Highway 202, Imphal- Ukhrul road is in a deplorable condition, and is adversely affecting all spheres of lives of people of the region, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president MLA K Meghachandra today.
The Congress leader said this during a programme in Ukhrul.
The construction of National Highway 202, under the Ministry of Transport and Highways, started in 2 phases-- Imphal to Yaingangpokpi and Yaingangpokpi to Ukhrul about 5 years ago. But, there has been no definitive progress. The road is still in a deplorable condition, he said.
He noted that the construction work lacks quality.
While there were issues with the tender process, the project has dragged on without much progress. The deplorable condition of the road has affected commuters as well as people of the region who depend on the road for their survival and sustenance, he added.
The MPCC president is expected to stay in Ukhrul till January 14, and visit several places in the district.
He is expected to visit Jessami village bordering Nagaland in the coming days.
Congress members will visit several places in the district and interact with the people to understand their plight, said Meghachandra.
