IMPHAL, Jan 12: The State Government and the Manipur Petroleum Dealers’ Fraternity (MPDF) held two rounds of talks today on the latter’s ongoing agitation of shutting oil pumps indefinitely but the talks could not arrive at any agreement.
The shutdown protest was launched after a petrol pump was attacked with a grenade on January 8 evening.
With petrol pumps closed, fuel sale in the black market is thriving.
With Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel in the chair, Government officials held a meeting with MPDF representatives at the Secretariat (South Block) this afternoon.
The MPDF representatives urged the Chief Secretary to translate their demands into action. In response, the Government officials assured that all possible measures will be taken up. The officials assured that the Govt will do what is necessary as per rules and norms.
However, the two sides could not come to an agreement even after threadbare deliberations and negotiation. Thus, the meeting ended in a deadlock at around 3 pm.
The meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary was participated by Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar, Commissioner CAF&PD, CAF&PD Director, Addl DGP and the IOCL’s State Level Coordinator.
Coming out from the Secretariat (South Block), MPDF held a separate meeting of their own at a location of Imphal. Later, at around 6 pm, MPDF representatives held another round of talks with the Commissioner, CAF& PD and Director, CAF&PD.
But the second round of talk too could not break the deadlock.
It is said that the MPDF would hold another round of meeting with the Government on Tuesday.
Notably, the MPDF has been demanding adequate security for all oil pumps and their staff, concrete assurance from the Government to prevent bomb attacks at oil pumps and take full responsibility in case of such attacks in the future and abduction of staff and adequate compensation for damages done to oil pumps, awarding highest compensation in case dealers and staff of oil pumps suffer injuries or death due to attacks at oil pumps and awarding compensation for damages done to Elidas Fuel Station, Moirang.
Placing these demands before the Government, MPDF shut all oil pumps across the valley districts from Saturday.
