Assault on singer condemned

IMPHAL, Jan 13 : The assault on Kennedy Heikrujam, the frontman (vocalist) of indie rock band The Dirty Strikes, has sparked widespread condemnation from the western music community in the State.
According to reports, Kennedy was attacked by a group of masked individuals after his performance at the Imphal Indie Music Festival 2.0, held at Wahyum Eco Resort at Taorem, under Sagolmang police station in Imphal East on January 11.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club today, Kennedy said that three masked individuals approached him for a photo shoot while he was leaving the green room after his performance at the music festival venue.
Visibly bruised, he said that he saw another four masked individuals waiting for him.
Kennedy stated that he was initially struck by a heavy object, after which the assailants fled when one of his friends emerged at the scene.
He mentioned that the miscreants were chased, but they managed to escape.
Kennedy also shared that he received treatment at JNIMS and a police case has been filed at Sagolmang police station.
Emphasising that he holds no personal enmity with anyone, he added that he had an argument with some individuals at a rock show venue in June of last year.
Kennedy said he never anticipated such an attempt on his life.
