RPF mourns, condoles cadre

IMPHAL, Jan 13: The proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) has mourned the demise of its Member on Special Duty (MSD), Social, Health & Family Welfare Department and 2nd Lt (retired) Yangambam (ongbi) Nongmaithem Ibeyaima alias Madam Rina.
According to a statement issued by the outfit’s Assistant Secretary, Publicity Bangkim, retired 2nd Lt Yangambam (ongbi) Nongmaithem Ibeyaima alias Madam Rina expired at around 2.10 pm on January 10, 2026 following a health problem. She was 71.
Madam Rina was the second of eight siblings born to Nongmaithem Pakchao and Nongmaithem (ongbi) Kundorei of Moirang Kampu Sajeb Makha Leikai, Imphal East. She was born on April 11, 1954.
Madam Rina grew up as a self-collected girl, always ready to help her parents and look after her younger siblings, it said.
After completing High School (Matriculation) at Top Dushra High School, she did PUC (Pre University Course) at Modern College.
Since childhood Madam Rina was endowed with a strong sense of nationalism.
Before joining the revolutionary movement, Madam Rina obtained gratification on serving whatever she had to RPF members who came to her house.
The life and works of Madam Rina remind one of Mrs Kang Ban Suk, also known as the Mother of Korea, who too key roles in the liberation movement of Korea, it said.
She volunteered to execute tasks which were inconvenient for RPF cadres.
Following her close association with the revolutionary fighters, Ibeyaima came to realise the real picture of Manipur. She left her family and joined the PLA in October 1982, the outfit said.
Demonstrating that female cadres are no less than male cadres when it came to the liberation struggle, Madam Rina took part in the historic Kachin Expedition of 1982.
Even though the journey was extremely difficult and arduous, she did not utter a single word of complaint or fatigue.
After receiving basic military training from the KIA (Kachin Independence Army) at Kachin, Madam Rina worked as a soldier of KIA’s WAF (Women Army Force). Later, she worked as a clerk in the General Staff Office, it said.
Madam Rina was always compassionate towards junior cadres and treated them like her own brothers and sisters.
She was always humble and straight-forward. Madam Rina was an outstanding leader among the women revolutionaries.
She took part in the first and second congress held in 1990 and 2008.
She came back to Manipur in 1990 and travelled to different corners of the State spreading the message of revolution.
She also took a pivotal role in organising Athouba singgi Ningsing Numit (April 13), it said.
Madam Rina was given the charge of looking after the party’s weaving industry which was set up after the party’s first congress of 1990 and it proved to be a substantial improvement to the party’s financial position, the outfit said.
She was appointed as the chairperson of the Family Committee of Social, Health & Family Welfare Department in 2007.
Till her last breath, Madam Rina dedicated her life on how to take the liberation movement to a higher trajectory.
Condolence meetings have been held in honour of Madam Rina at all units, departments and stations of RPF, it said.
RPF and its armed wing PLA have also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, relatives and friends.
