Somdal, Teinem, Seikhor reach quarterfinals

IMPHAL, Jan 17 : Somdal, Teinem, Seikhor reach men’s football quarterfinals as pool winners in the ongoing XI Zingtun Longphang Sports Meet being underway at Phalee village, Ukhrul.
Somdal became the Pool B winners today with a 3-0 thrashing of Tashar as Hormipam (44’), Somipei (48’), and Thangsomi (53’) were on target.
Somdal had earlier played out a 0-0 draw with Tingsong in their opening match.
Teinem meanwhile emerged Pool C winners following a 2-2 draw with Tanrui. Shiyansing (35’) and Pil Khayi (77’) scored for Teinem in the match as Tanrui enjoyed a brief 2-1 lead through goals from Christianson (50’) and Thanreingam (62’).
Teinem had earlier won 3-1 against Sirarakhong and eventually emerged on top of Pool D.
Seikhor, who posted a slender 1-0 win over Pharung in the first game, played out a 2-2 draw with Ngainga to finish Group D winners today. Nganaopam (60’) and Kui Kui (70’) were on target for Seikhor as Rungsing (23’) and Themreiso (70+6’).
The day also saw Lamlang beat Ringui 1-0 thanks to Mathan’s 10th minute strike to finish Pool E runners up.
Notably, top five teams and three best runners up from five will progress into the quarterfinals beginning on January 19.
