IMPHAL, Jan 18: With the talks of reinstatement of a popular Government going abuzz, NPF MLA Leishiyo Keishing has stated that NPF will support whoever is chosen by the Centre as the leader of the new Government.
Notably, NPF supported the previous N Biren Government and two of their legislators served as Cabinet Ministers.
The silver jubilee cum 4th general conference, sports, cultural and literary meet of Khunthok Students’ Union was opened at Alang village within Phungyar Assembly segment on January 17, 2026.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the opening ceremony, Leishiyo Keishing said that there will not be any difficulty in forming a popular Government as there are more than enough MLAs.
He said that NPF will support the leader chosen by the Centre.
Alang Katamnao Long is hosting the event which is being held under the theme “Exploring the unexplored”. The event will go on till January 24.
Ukhrul ADC ex-Vice Chairman M Isaac, NPF Phungyar president Thotasheng Shanglai, TKS president Ramreichan Keishing and ADC Ukhrul ex-Member Wungreiyo Ningshen too attended the opening ceremony.
Leishiyo Keishing said that the Centre has been working to reinstate an elected Government and bring stability in the State.
There will not be any difficulty in choosing a leader of the new Government, he said.
Saying that the Centre has talked with MLAs and CSOs of all communities on the formation of a new Government, Leishiyo exuded confidence that an elected Government would be reinstated.
He went on to claim that there will be stability and normalcy in Manipur after an elected Government is reinstated.
It is a known fact that Manipur is a powerhouse of  sports. At one point of time in the past, Tangkhul youth took active part in the State’s sports movement, he said.
But today, Tangkhuls have little presence in competitive sports. It is not only sports, Tangkhuls have fallen behind in the field of education. So the number of employed youth among the Tangkhul community is declining, Leishiyo said.
Lack of modern playgrounds and proper training facilities are the two main factors for the inability of Tangkhul youth to participate in competitive sports.
Considering these factors and with a view to promote sports among Tangkhul youth, more than 50 playgrounds have been constructed within Phungyar AC, Leishiyo said.
He said that the failure of the Government to declare results of recruitment exams in time has disappointed many youth. It usually takes five years for the Government to declare results of a recruitment exam. As such, many youth who are not selected in the particular recruitment exam missed all the opportunities to apply for other jobs, Leishiyo said. He also highlighted the urgent need for formulating an effective policy to address the issue of growing unemployment. It will be a big help to the unemployed people if  they are given work for the complete number of days guaranteed by VB-G RAM G (formerly MGNREGS), Leishiyo added.
