IMPHAL, Jan 18 : Denouncing the increasing cases of crimes against women in Manipur, Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL) took out a mass rally from Moirangkhom Bokulmakhong, Imphal West today.
The rally was flagged off by Senior Advocate Khai-dem Mani.
It concluded at Ibudhou Luwangpokpa Shanglen, Singjamei Chingamakha where a public meeting was subsequently held.
Speaking in this connection, Th Ibethoi, president, SANULAL, said that crimes against women continue to persist in Manipur.
Putting special focus on some incidents, she said Dr Angom Rita from Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak was stabbed to death at her residence on October 13, 2025 but her killers have not been identified and arrested till date.
More recently, mother of two Chanambam ningol Khaidem ongbi Chaoba's lifeless body was found at Thiyam Leishangkhong on December 27, 2025.
On May 2, 2025, a 19-year old girl by the name of Thingnam Roshni from Kakching Umathel Awang Leikai was found dead in a local pond.
Mother of three, Chingtham ningol Thok-chom ongbi Matouleibi was also found dead at a community pond on March 7, 2025 at Malom Makha Leikai.
Commenting on these brutal murders, she said usually women from under- privileged backgrounds and households with only daughters are victims of such crimes.
In this regard, she urged people to stop wasting time on dismantling houses or disputing over who gets the dead body after somebody's murder.
Instead, she appealed the public to work out what needs to be done before their death, to save them from such grisly fates.
Further, she urged parents to extend support to their married daughters who may be victims of abuse or bad circumstances.
If they return to their paternal home,  they should be given a place to live with dignity and flourish, she maintained.
The rally goers wielded placards with messages such as "We want justice", "Stop killing women" and "Is delayed justice not a crime?" among others.
