IMPHAL, Jan 18 : Manipur continues to grapple with unwanted incidents, various issues and a multifaceted crisis due to the politics pursued by the BJP-led Central Government, said Christopher Tilak, secretary, All India Congress Committee (AICC), Manipur in-charge.
The Congress leader was accorded a warm welcome by Advocate N Bhupenda Meitei, spokesperson, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC); Md Wahidur Rahman, general secretary, MPCC and other party leaders at Imphal International Airport today. He is on a week-long (approximately) visit to the State.
Speaking to the media at the airport, Christopher Tilak maintained that the repeated vandalism of the Indo-Myanmar border fencing by unidentified miscreants is evidence of the Central Government's negligence.
The Centre has failed to protect Manipur and it has neglected the State for the last five years, remarked the AICC secretary.
Manipur's economy is on the decline, security forces have failed to provide security and protection to the people. The State is currently facing crises on multiple fronts- border security, internal security and economic crisis.
Attributing all these issues to the failure of the Central Government,  Tilak further said that despite the imposition of President's Rule in Manipur, the State has not seen much improvement as it continues to remain overlooked.
Commenting on his Manipur trip, Tilak shared that he is visiting the State for about a week in connection with the Congress party's campaign to oppose the replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with the VB-G RAM G Act.
During this trip, Tilak will visit 4/5 hill and valley districts and spread awareness about MGNREGA ideology.
Decrying the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name from the Act, he said the ideas of dignity of labour, empowerment and social justice have also been scrapped.
The MGNREGA campaign/protest will be carried out with the support of the public, said Tilak.
