IMPHAL, Jan 19: A representation has been submitted to the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary, Administrative Reforms Depart- ment urging action to immediately review the appoint- ment of Nungshitombi Athokpam as State Information Commissioner.
The representation seeking the review of the appointment of the officer was submitted by Aribam Dhananjoy Sharma.
The representation urged the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of Administrative Reforms Department to initiate an "immediate review" of the appointment of the officer as State Information Commissioner, in light of "violation of Section 15(3) of the RTI Act, 2005.
It urged the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps for her removal from the post of the State Information Commissioner, "the appointment being void ab initio and without authority of law". It sought a fresh appointment in accordance with provisions of the RTI Act, including constitution of the mandatory Selection Committee. The representation further sought an order for "an internal administrative examination into the failure of due diligence and incorrect statements made in official RTI replies regarding absence of complaints." It urged the relevant authorities to pass necessary orders to uphold the rule of law, statutory compliance, and institutional integrity of the Manipur Information Commission.
