IMPHAL, Jan 19 : Seeking the Government's attention to their pending demand for restoration of Old Pension Scheme and a hike in Dearness Allowance, the All India State Government Employees Confederation (AISGEC), Manipur State Unit has submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club after submitting the memo, M Joykumar, president, AISGEC/MSU said that a Central Government employee receives 56% DA, while State Government employees get 39% DA, which is significantly lower in comparison.
Only when the condition of employees improve, can the financial condition of the State also see improvement, he maintained.
As the retirement age of State Government employees is 60 years, the number of vacant posts has increased in many departments, which is accompanied by an increase in pending departmental work.
On the other hand, the retirement age of doctors and teachers is 65 years.
Stressing on this, he urged the authority concerned to raise the retirement age to 62 years.
Highlighting the lack of benefits to pensioners under the New Pension Scheme, M Joykumar also appealed for reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme.
On another note, he urged the Government to plug the shortage of teachers from primary to higher secondary level and also take up the long-unaddressed issue of their promotion and replacement.
In order to ensure proper implementation of NEP 2020, he called for recruitment of well-versed experts and teachers in Government colleges.
