IMPHAL, Jan 27 : Manipur suffered a huge 568-run loss to hosts Bihar in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Plate Group Final that was held from January 22 to 26 at Moin Ul Haq Stadium, Patna.
Manipur’s Elite promotion hopes were dashed as they were bundled out for 195 runs after Bihar declared their second innings at 505/6 and gave a target of 764 runs on the fifth and final day.
In the wild goose chase, Manipur line up collapsed like a house of cards and slumped to 195 all out in 56.1 overs despite Pheiroijam Jotin’s half century knock, to settle for the runners up title.
With Prashant Kumar, Suraj Kashyap and Himanshu Singh sharing 2 wickets apiece, Manipur were reduced to 70/7 in 22.3 overs. Pheiroijam Jotin, who came in at number 7, however, gathered some courage and forged 83 runs off 129 balls with Kishan Singha (30 off 76) for the 8th wicket.
Jotin, who picked two wickets (2/74) in the first innings and three wickets (3/85) in the second innings, smacked 6 fours and 2 sixes on the way to his 102-ball 74 before he holed out to Pratap for the 9th wicket as the scoreboard read 170.
Yumnam Chingkhei Nganba was unbeaten on 16 as the curtain was drawn on Manipur’s second innings.
Suraj Kashyap returned with the best figures of 3/32 for Bihar in his spell of 16 overs as Himanshu Singh finished with 3/49 in 12.1 overs. Prashant Kumar Singh meanwhile returned with 2/51 as Pratap (1/19) and Akash Raj (1/22) chipped in a wicket apiece.
Although Manipur lost the final and settled for the runners up spot, Jotin Pheiroijam was adjudged “Man of the tournament” having scored 335 runs in 7 innings and claimed 15 wickets in 10 innings.
Manipur skipper Konthoujam Bishworjit also topped the chart in the bowling section registering 24 wickets to his name in 10 innings.
