Introduction
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a firm believer in the basics of modernism. He was highly educated and intellectual person. In his thought system, application of Science to all round development played an indis- pensable part as he comprehends the significance of science. And his concept of application was closely connected with the ideals and ideas of Nationalism, secularism, humanism, and democracy as an integrated process. He was thoroughly modern as being planned scientifically, free from any preconceived bias, and bigotry for study and assess- ment of the forces of change and progress taking place in India and abroad. He studied the revolutionary move- ments of different countries of the world that led to their independence and their post-independence reconstruction. In other words he studied the techniques and tactics, the modes and methods of their struggle for freedom and post-independence reconstruction pro- grams of their countries. In fact, he wanted to take lessons from these plannings for India.
Provisional Government
On 21st October, 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose formed the Provisional Government of Azad Hind with proclamation signed by himself and the Ministers of the newly created Provisional Government. The proclaimation of the Provisional Government of Free India was promptly recognized by world powers like Japan, Germany, Italy and Thailand. Personalities like SC Bose, Mrs Lakshmi Sehgal, SA Ayer, Lt Col AC Chatterjee, AM Sahay, Secretary, AN Sarkar, Legal Advisor, Re-organisation of INA and its Activities, Lt Col Aziz Ahmed, Lt Col NS Bhagat, Lt Col JK Bhonsle, Lt Col Guljara Singh, Lt Col MZ Kiani, Lt Col AD Loganadan, Lt Col Ehsan Qadir, Lt Col Shah Nawaz - all representatives of Armed Forces, Karim Gani, Debnath Das, DM Khan, A Uallappa, J Thiry, Sardar Ishar Singh as Advisors, Rash Behari Bose, supreme Advisor were included in the Provisional Government.
The Provisional Government consists of Indians irrespective of class, caste, and creed. So, most of the followers of Netaji respected every person for what he was worth and not for his religion. Netaji made a broadcast from Tokyo on 15.8.43 declaring that “All Indians in East Asia are united regardless of religion or caste and they are determined to fight for the freedom of their common motherland.” This was corroborated by Shah Nawaz Khan, a trusted follower of Netaji, “for him there was no religious or provincial difference. He refused to recognize this. He looked at everyone, Hindu, Muslim or Sikh, without distinction and his spirit animated his men. In the INA, there was no communal feeling of any sort.
The fact was that everyman had full liberty to practice his religion in any way he liked. He made his soldiers realize that they were the sons of the same motherland, and as such there could be no difference between them. We were all completely united and it was realized by us that communal differences in our country were the creation of an alien power. The success of this can be gauged from the fact that the most ardent supporters and admirers of Netaji respected everyman for what he was worth and not for his religion or the province he came from.” The Provisional Government, in the words of Netaji, “guarantees religious liberty as well as equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens. It declares its firm resolves to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and all its parts, cherishing all the children of the Nation equally, and transcending all the differences cunningly fostered by an alien Government in the past.”
