Let me begin by relating one incident. One day, as I went to my concerned district secretariat office to check the status of my recently applied documents, I was apprised that it would take sometime to complete the process of documentation, most apparently way later than expected time. I asked why ? You know, that’s normal. If you want to prompt the process, tip the officer with ‘some bucks’ replied he. ‘Tip what’ shockingly asked I. ‘Tipping him for refreshment’ said he again. I asked nothing more but ended dilating my eyes. If I don’t tip him it’s very likely that my documents will be either delayed or kept on hold indefinitely.
Tipping for refreshment! This very phrase has got me dumbfounded. Ah! It’s pathetic to learn that nowadays Government servants are served no refreshment. Upon hearing this, I know you are utterly shocked even raising your eyebrow in protest. Oh, why should this happen ? Trust me, for further authentication please go and visit any Government office or institution you’ll find them with a begging bowl at the counter or inside the office exquisitely anticipating someone will pass by and atleast drop a tiny coin in. No wonder, begging is in vogue ! I don’t condone begging however in this case, I’d rather justify a beggar with a begging bowl than an officer with a begging bowl. Are they even bereft of their daily bread ? Is it the common men’s obliged responsibility to foster ‘feed’ Government employees ? Aye!
I ineffably wonder, why people ask for tips when they are well paid ? Why should procuring a piece of paper require me to pay 200 bucks ? Why should people prefer tea over a sumptuous meal when they are hungry ? Why should I pay to someone whose job is to help me to get things done and for that, he is getting paid handsomely ?
Why should I feed you when your belly is already swollen and protruded with food ? If you think this is not sufficient for you, come down from your comfy seat go to poor farmer’s barren field and labour hard in the sun.
I dare you, let’s trade it. Let someone of more trustworthiness assume your position !
Oh, this world is crazy, crazier the people ! This is wrong, all wrong ! Unless sense be dawned we are waned, a bane. Unless this grimy custom at the earliest possible be rectified, behold; the day will soon come when all will become a BEGGAR, no distinction! And tomorrow, our proud sanity will turn into insanity.
