IMPHAL, Jan 30 : Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM) has submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla appealing for immediate, speedy and swift eviction of unauthorized villages which do find any mention in official Gazette notifications.
A letter bearing the signatures of IPFM chief advisor Ashang Kasar and general secretary Ramtahungbe Newmai drew the Governor's attention to the mushrooming of a plethora of illegal and unauthorized villages in the hill districts of Manipur which has reportedly caused a lot of political conflicts and socio-economic challenges to the indigenous communities.According to IPFM, the situation has created a "huge demographic imbalance", turning the native people into a minority group in their own country.
A multitude of hamlets and human settlements have come into existence due to the sheer negligence of the successive State Governments, it added.
IPFM has maintained that this is the right time to rectify the wrongs committed by the previous administrations, or else Manipur will turn into "another Tripura" in the foreseeable future where the native people are outnumbered by illegal immigrants.
In view of such circumstances, IPFM has urged the Governor to detect and deport illegal immigrants and dismantle their unauthorized villages.
