IMPHAL, Jan 3: Demo-cratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) cele-brated its 24th foundation day at JN Dance Academy, Imphal today.
The foundation day was observed under the theme "Cultivating change: From education to action".
The celebration saw DESAM honouring Dr Ksh Shanta, Lecturer, Padma Ratna English School, Kakching, with Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Khonga (award).
Dr Ksh Shanta hails from Kakching Khunlen Makha Leikai. The award is presented every year.
Speaking at the event, DESAM president Mayeng-bam Somorjit Meitei said the ultimate goal of education is finding solutions to the problems of society.
The purpose of getting education is not securing jobs alone. It should also be a means to identify and solve problems the society is facing, he said.
Somorjit said DESAM believes education to be the only solution to all the problems of a society.
Education must not end with personal growth. It must serve as a driving force that transforms a society and brings about development, he added.
Through education, Somorjit said, many of the problems of the Manipuri society can be solved and addressed.
He said DESAM encourages students to learn and act to bring about positive changes in the society.
He also talked about school education in the State, and said that the Government should intervene to streamline the salaries of teachers of private schools and address their grievances.
Retired IAS officer Dr RK Nimal, Kumbi Sandong Upper Primary School Headmaster Khangembam Indrakumar and DESAM's former president Wangmayum Islahuddin too attended the event.
