Committee condemns firing incident

IMPHAL, Jan 4: Laksh Pioneer Committee has demanded identification of the person who fired a bullet and grievously injured an infant boy on New Year's Day.
The person who fired the shot must be identified and given strict punishment to deter similar incidents in the future, said the committee in a statement.
Notably, the incident occurred at around 4 pm of January 1.
A stray bullet hit a one-year-old baby boy at a rented house at Noaremthong Khulem Leikai.
Currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of a hospital, the infant is the child of Elangbam Thoiba (32) and Elangbam Lakhirani Devi.
The family hails from Jiribam Lamtai Khunou, under Borobekra police station, and they have been staying at a rented house at Noaremthong Khulem Leikai.
The stray bullet pierced through the roof and struck the baby in the head.
The child was first rushed to RIMS Hospital and then to Little Clinic, where the bullet was removed.
The child is battling for life in the ICU.
Wishing for speedy recovery and expressing solidarity with the family, the Laksh Pioneer Committee has extended monetary assistance.
The police must identify the person who fired the shot at the earliest and award stringent punishment, reiterated the committee.
