Grenade planted

IMPHAL, Jan 7: A hand grenade was found at the residential gate of one Moirangthem Priyobarta at Kongba Nongthombam Leikai, Imphal East under Irilbung police station this morning.
Family members and some local people came across the hand grenade at around 6.30 am with a piece of note marked ‘KCP’ attached to it.
They promptly informed police and a team of Irilbung police stationed retrieved the hand grenade safely.
Later, a case was registered at Irilbung police station in connection with the incident. Taking strong exception to the act of planting explosives in the civilian area, local womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Kongba Nongthombam Leikai later today.
Speaking to media persons, Kongba Nongthombam Leikai Women Association president Thounaojam Ashakiran strongly condemned the act of creating panic among civilians by placing a hand grenade at the residential gate of Moirangthem Priyobarta alias Goroba (58) s/o late Modhumangol. Pointing out that all sections of people have been going through hard times on account of the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023, she appealed to all concerned not to repeat such acts of intimidating civilians.
Moirangthem Priyobarta is the secretary of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai Development Committee and a carpenter by profession, Ashakiran added.
