IMPHAL, Jan 7 : A two-day motorcycle rally kicked off today from the front of Lamyanba Shanglen at Palace Compound as part of the month-long National Reconsolidation Month, organized by the United People's Front (UPF).
Held under the theme "Eikhoi Amuk Khuntak-laroishi", the observance, which began on December 9 last year, will conclude on January 9.
The rally, featuring over 200 vehicles, was flagged off by Khomdram Ratankumar, advisor to the UPF and former president of the organisation.
Speaking to the media, UPF president Nong-thombam Rupachandra stated the rally will pass through Khurai Lamlong, Sawongbong, Waiton, Pangei, Keirang, Heingang, Khabam Lamkhai, Awang Potsangbam, Leikinthabi, Sekmai, Khurkhul, Loidang Khunou, Phumlou, Mayang Langjing, Langjing Achou-ba, Tera Bazar, Sangaiprou, Malom, Nambol, Ningthou-khong, and conclude at Moirang College on the first day.
On the second day, the rally will start from Moirang College and cover areas such as Moirang Khunou, Kumbi, Wangoo, Wabgai, Waikhong, Kakching, Wangjing, Thoubal, Yairipok, Ngariyan, Irilbung, Kongba, Singjamei, and conclude at Manipur College, he said and added that street corner meetings will also be held at several locations along the route.
Rupachandra continued that several programmes were also held across different North East States, including Meghalaya, Tripura, and Assam, as part of the 192nd National Reconsolidation Month.
The rally is being organised to instill a sense of patriotism among the people, he said and appealed to all clubs and organisations to support the rally.
He said that the closing ceremony of the month-long programme will be held at the memorial complex of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Langthabal on January 9.
