IMPHAL, Jan 7: Altogether 11.264 Kgs of opium concealed inside a spare tyre of Bolero jeep were seized by a combined team of Special Operation Team, Senapati and 78 Bn, CRPF at Nepali Khuti along Imphal-Dimapur highway.
During a routine frisking and checking exercise along the National Highway, the combined team intercepted a Bolero jeep moving in a suspicious manner from the direction of Imphal toward Mao at around 4.30 pm on Tuesday.
On checking the Bolero, the combined team recovered 11.264 Kgs of opium concealed inside a spare tyre of the vehicle bearing Assam registration number.
Subsequently, the driver identified as Nantu Deb (44) of Mahishashan village, Karimganj district, Assam, was detained.
Later, the Bolero driver was arrested and the opium was seized along with a mobile phone and the Bolero in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, sources said.
Nantu Deb was then handed over to Senapati police station along with the seized items.
