IMPHAL, Jan 7: Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has locked the rooms of the Principal and administrative staff of DM College of Teachers Education as well as the Principal’s room of Hindi Teachers Training College.
Taking strong exception to the Government’s failure to appoint regular Principals of these colleges, DESAM locked the rooms of Principals and the administrative staff this afternoon.
Speaking to media persons regarding their protest, DESAM general secretary Nongthombam Thoithoiba Meetei said that no regular Principal has been appointed for DM College of Teachers Education except for the first one who served from 1972 to 1986.
Till date, in-charge Principals have been looking after the college and there are only 14 teachers although there should be 34 teachers, Thoithoiba said.
Saying that many teachers of DM College of Teachers Education have been transferred to other colleges or are being utilised elsewhere, he urged the authority concerned to bring back the teachers within 72 hours.
Likewise, teachers from other colleges who are being utilised at DM College of Teachers Education must be sent back to their parent colleges within 72 hours, he said.
If the Government fails to take up necessary action in time, DESAM will launch different modes of intense agitation.
For any untoward incident resulting thereof, the Directorate of Education(U), the Education Commissioner and the PR administration must be held accountable, Thoithoiba said.
Hindi Teachers Training College too does not have any regular Principal nor does it have the required strength of teachers, he said.
The DESAM Secretary demanded appointment of regular Principals of the two colleges at the earliest.
When the two colleges which should impart training to teachers are plagued by shortage of teachers, how qualified or competent their products would be, he asked.
The student community will be affected directly when the two colleges do not impart proper training to teachers, he said.
On account of the Government’s levity, it is feared that NCTE may cancel the recognition of DM College of Teachers   Education as well as Hindi Teacher Training College, Thoithoiba said.
In case NCTE cancels the recognition given to the two colleges, the Education Commissioner, Education (U) Director and the PR administration must be held accountable, he added.
