IMPHAL, Jan 7: Joining the strong and collective voice of condemnation against the Saiton serial blasts of January 5, 2026 which injured two villagers including a woman, the Apunba Manipur Ema (AME) has questioned some serious and pertinent questions on the Government of India’s failure to protect its own citizens.
AME has also expressed strong indignation against the Government of Manipur (specially Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla) and the Government of India (specially Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh) for their alleged unwillingness and inability to uphold their Constitutionally obligated responsibility of safeguarding lives and properties of Indian citizens who had been forcefully displaced due to the aggression of Kuki militants.
The bomb blast inside dilapidated houses (left behind by IDPs) at Saiton on January 5, 2026 is highly condemnable by all Indians and such incidents in Manipur ought to be considered as terrorist acts by Kuki militants with the same seriousness as given to terrorist acts that happened in other parts of India (eg Mumbai, Delhi etc), said a press release issued by AME.
Noting that the IDPs tried to go back to their original houses because of the safety assurance given by the State authority, AME asked whether the Central security forces stationed in the Saiton area are incompetent and if accountability must not be fixed upon the commanders of Central security forces stationed at Saiton and adjoining areas.
It asked whether the Home Minister of India and the Governor of Manipur should not be taking moral responsibility for the serial bomb blasts.
If the Home Minister and the Governor do not take moral responsibility, they must come out with a public statement identifying those persons upon whom responsibility must be fixed, it said.
It also urged the Government to explain how Kuki militants can create security threats to Indian citizens at will in spite of the deployment of the huge number of security forces.
The Salaai Kanba Lup (SKL) has asserted that the serial bomb blasts of January 5, 2026 in which two civilians were injured was another big failure of the Government.
It was not the first time Kukis attacked returning IDPs with bombs and bullets. Armed Kukis rained bullets and bombs on returning IDPs at Phougakchao Ikhai on December 16, 2025, said a press release issued by SKL.
With the Government not doing anything concrete to pull up the perpetrators of the December 16 attack, returning Meitei IDPs were attacked again on January 5, it said.
The SKL asserted that the Government cannot remain silent to the repeated attacks but take up concrete, appropriate actions immediately.
It has demanded a thorough investigation into the inaction of Central security forces even when the place (Saiton) where they are deployed was rocked by not one blast but multiple bombs.
The Government must see that armed Kukis stop attacking innocent civilians immediately and all those armed Kukis involved in attacking innocent civilians  must be booked and punished as per the law of the land, the SKL said.
Meanwhile, CPI Manipur State Council has asserted that the serial blasts at Saiton on January 5, 2026 reflected the Government’s laxity and flippancy.
It said that responsible authorities have been hiding behind the scene while letting the aggrieved people and security personnel on duty confront each other.
CPI Manipur State Council has also called upon the people to launch a mass movement and force the Government of India to remove the so-called buffer zones.
