IMPHAL, Jan 7 : Reiterating its demand for a Separate Administration, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has categorically stated that Kuki-Zo people cannot and will not participate in the formation of the Government of Manipur "under the present circumstances."
KZC, in a press release issued yesterday, continued that any Kuki-Zo individual who chooses to participate in the formation of the Government of Manipur will do so solely at his or her own responsibility.
It reminded that on December 30, 2025, the KZC Governing Council, comprising all constituent bodies under the Kuki-Zo Council, convened a Governing Council General Meeting at the VTI Auditorium, Rengkai, Churachand- pur and reviewed the prevailing political, social, and security realities in Manipur.
“Considering the present realities and the unanimous sentiment that the Kuki-Zo people can no longer live together with the Meitei community, the Governing Council reaffirmed its political demand for a Separate Administration in the form of a Union Territory under the Constitution of India. The Governing Council unanimously resolved that the Kuki-Zo people cannot and shall not participate in the formation of the Government of Manipur,” it stated.
The KZC Cabinet, in its meeting held on Tuesday, has reaffirmed and endorsed the said resolutions, it added.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations, MLAs and MLAs have been convened on January 13.
A joint statement issued by United People's Front (UPF) and Kuki National Organisation (KNO) said that the meeting will discuss issues 'pertinent to our people and political demand and arrive at a consensus based decision.'
