MCPCR takes note

IMPHAL, Jan 7: After an 11-year-old minor was physically assaulted in a dispute involving two families at Heirok, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has directed police to file an FIR "without delay".
The minor was arbitrarily targeted, and physically assaulted, resulting in injuries and severe psychological trauma. The child was observed to be in a state of acute distress, needing immediate medical attention and psycho-social intervention, said the commission after it conducted a field inquiry on January 5.
The field inquiry was conducted by the MCPCR acting under Section 13 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, it said.
The MCPCR sees the incident as a grave violation of child rights, it said, directing the district administration and Superintendent of Police, Thoubal, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Thoubal, to ensure the child's immediate safety, protection, care, and rehabilitation.
The police station concerned and Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) must register a case/FIR without delay under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and other relevant laws, strictly adhering to child-friendly procedures, said the commission in its direction, issued today.
In cases involving violence, abuse, or assault against minors, all police stations in the State must register cases promptly in accordance with the nature and gravity of the offence. Violence against children will not be tolerated under any circumstances, said the commission.
